Your snoring and coughing patterns at night may be one-of-a-kind.

Researchers from the University of Southampton are exploring whether people’s snoring has a unique sound signature that could be used to identify them. They suggest deep neural networks could be used to track snoring or coughing accurately, though data sets that include strong signal, natural variation and nuance are difficult to find. Preliminary research in using machine learning to identify individual coughs has been carried out by Google and the University of Washington. Resmonics, a Swiss company, has released an app using AI to detect lung disease symptoms, providing users with more detailed information about their symptoms.
