Cloud or data server center takes time whereas Edge computing provides the ultimate features like-

  • Reduction in bandwidth
  • Reduction in Congestion

Latency-  the amount of time required for data to travel between two points is known as latency, although the communication takes place at the speed of light, a large distance with network congestion can hold up movement of data which directly affects decision making and declines system’s ability from responding. confining data analysis to the edge eliminates latency. This makes the data faster, relevant, and actionable. Edge computing reduces traffic and improves performance.

Bandwidth- It is usually expressed with metric “bits per second” bandwidth amount or quantity of information and data a network can carry in certain amount of time. Each and every network has limited bandwidth and limits on networks are more severe in case of wireless communication. There is also a limit to the number of devices that can communicate data across the network. Edge computing increases the network bandwidth to accommodate more data and devices at in significant cost.

Congestion- the Internet provides good data exchange such as file exchanges or basic streaming although the volume of data can overwhelm the internet causing a high level of congestion and high consuming data retransmission. edge computing makes congestion virtually non-existent by reducing latency and bandwidth.

Edge computing can function online providing faster response from a server because it is located directly on a local network proven to be useful.

Edge computing is essential in manufacturing  to control big networks and process real data from production system, public vendors .Edge computing can connect all devices amongst industrial equipment providing fast connection which results to efficiency and good management.

Smart speaker 

Edge computing offers stable data storage and quick corresponding response to users request or commands. Although speakers should be able to process users input immediately to perform requested operations. they should preferably be independent of bandwidth quality.

Future for edge computing, IoT, and 5G possibilities

By making proper and adequate use of new technologies and practices, Edge computing has proved it’s benefits. It is said and firmly believed that edge computing services will be available worldwide by 2028. Although edge computing is situation-specific today, The way internet is being used makes technology rapid bringing more potential to edge computing. convergence of 5G and edge computing will change the working of entire system.
