Opera has launched generative AI chatbots powered by ChatGPT and ChatSonic into its desktop browsers Opera and Opera GX. These tools are available in early access across all desktop platforms, and can summarize articles or webpages, write social media posts, or help users ideate through prompts. The company is also integrating ChatGPT and ChatSonic into its browsers’ sidebar and launching a feature that lets users generate AI prompts by highlighting a text on a website or typing them out. Users must manually switch on “AI prompts” through settings to use this feature. Opera is owned by a Chinese consortium and plans to announce more AI-powered features in the future. Other browsers, such as Brave, are also experimenting with AI-focused features for their browsers, indicating that generative AI is growing in popularity.
