Meta, formerly known as Facebook, is attempting to increase user engagement on its Horizon Worlds VR social network by introducing a new feature called ‘quests’. In development as a beta test on a game called Giant Mini Paddle Golf, the feature involves users completing in-game missions to earn virtual rewards such as clothing. Meta reportedly plans to roll out the feature more widely over time, potentially expanding it to other parts of the Horizon Worlds VR environment. Despite recent efforts to open up the platform to children aged 13-17, the user base for Horizon Worlds was only around 200,000 at the end of 2022, falling short of Meta’s original target.
