Lighthouse Games

Gavin Raeburn, founder of Playground, has announced the launch of Lighthouse Games, a new studio dedicated to making “creative and innovative” video games.

Former Forza Horizon studio Playground Games co-founder Gavin Raeburn has created a new development firm called Lighthouse Games. The company is based in Leamington Spa, UK, and it is developing a new, triple-A title that it hopes to turn into a franchise. Raeburn stated that he was “delighted” that 30 former colleagues had joined him in creating “something truly special using all our experience to create a new genre-defining franchise”. Lighthouse is said to be at the earliest stages of development on the new game.

The company is currently not seeking investment, instead it wants to partner with a publisher that has a “longer-term view of the market”. The developer also wants to invest in its own infrastructure and tools. Lighthouse is Raeburn’s first studio since he left Playground Games at the end of last year. The studio’s debut title, Forza Horizon, was published back in 2012 and sold more than 4 million copies.

According to Gamesindustry.biz, Lighthouse Games isn’t seeking investment at the moment but rather to partner with a publisher with a “longer-term view of the market.” It’s also investing in its own tools and infrastructure to build its new games. This marks the second studio from former Forza developers who’ve opened new ventures in Leamington Spa in 2023, the first being Maverick Games in January.
