Twitter is reportedly providing a free pass to its 500 largest advertisers and top 10,000 organizations with the most followers, granting them their verified status in perpetuity, according to The New York Times. The decision comes ahead of Twitter’s revamping of its verification program which plans to phase out the legacy verified system in April. The new Twitter Verification for Organizations is to be paid for at a monthly cost of $1,000, and will also provide a tick on specific accounts labelled as “affiliated” with the brand. Companies enthused by the benefits of verification that do not qualify for a free pass could face steep costs, along with considerable risks from impersonation.
