Luxury sports car manufacturer, Ferrari, has been targeted by a cyber hacker who is demanding a ransom in exchange for not releasing stolen customer details including names, addresses, email addresses, and telephone numbers. Ferrari states the attack compromised sensitive customer data but assured customers that payment details, bank account numbers, and details of Ferrari cars owned or ordered were not at risk. However, the Italian company opted not to pay the ransom amount, citing that it does not negotiate with cybercriminals as that would fund criminal organisations, therefore, enabling them to continue their attack. Ferrari informed its customers of the data breach and involved law enforcement agencies and has contracted a cybersecurity firm to rectify the apparent security breach while enhancing the company’s computer systems.
