The LGBTQ+ community receives less than 1% of venture capital funding, and there are no figures for how much of that goes to trans individuals. Black trans woman Tiana Tukes and former early-stage investor Jackson Block have co-founded a non-profit organisation — LGBT+ VC — dedicated to boosting funding of LGBTQ+ movements. LGBT+ VC will provide networking events, conferences, and educational opportunities for LGBTQ+ people looking to become accredited investors, hoping to create more inclusivity in the venture ecosystem. The organisation cites the wave of anti-LGBT+ legislation sweeping the US as motivation to provide support and prove that LGBTQ+ individuals can create profitable start-ups.
