Bob Metcalfe, co-inventor of Ethernet and co-founder of local-area networking pioneer 3Com, has been named the recipient of the 2022 ACM A.M. Turing Award for the invention, standardization, and commercialization of Ethernet. In an interview with VentureBeat, Metcalfe discussed the development of Ethernet and the battles it faced with proprietary technologies such as IBM Token Ring and WangNet.
